THE ETERNAL PULSE explores a diverse musical expression, layering Indian elements, rhythmic textures and ensemble dialogue, in an evocative journey of sound and song.
The quartet’s last album ‘Grace’ won the prestigious ‘Bell’ award for ‘Best Australian Vocal Album 2007’.
A longtime student of mridangam maestro Karaikudi Mani in Chennai, Lisa specializes in ‘konnakol’ - South Indian vocal percussion.
THE ETERNAL PULSE features - Steve Magnusson – guitar, Ben Robertson – double bass, Dave Beck – drums. Tonight's performance features Hugh Stuckey on guitar.

The world premiere of the new song cycle for the Lisa Young Quartet, 'The Eternal Pulse'.
'The Eternal Pulse' will be premiered at MIJF 2011 - Sunday June 12th 1pm, The Forum Upstairs.
The Eternal Pulse features the intoned recitation of konnakol using varieties of meter and subdivision. The work explores a diverse musical expression layering Indian elements, rhythmic textures and ensemble dialogue , in an evocative journey of sound and song. Here's the link for all the details

Coco's Lunch at the Sydney Opera House
Coco's Lunch are performing a return season of their show for children 'I Wanna Be A Mermaid'
as part of the Babies Proms Concert Series. Shows commence Wednesday March 3rd - 13th 2011
In 2010 Lisa commenced a PhD in Music Performance at Monash University. She has been awarded The Pratt Post Graduate Scholarship to continue her research - Creating with Konnakol in Contemporay Vocal Practice.
In 2010 she has been exploring a gorgeous new trio featuring Sam Evans on tabla, and Ben Robertson on Double Bass. They celebrated their debut performance in March 2010 as part of the Manningham Shire event 'Celebrating Women in Local Government', performed a combined PhD and Masters recital in August at the Monash Uni Performing Arts Centre, and in concert for the Boite World Music Cafe in October.

the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.
Coco's Lunch selected for Polyfollia
In October - November 2010 Coco's Lunch performed in France at the exclusive Polyfollia 2010 4th World Showcase and Marketplace. This was an incredible opportunity for the group to showcase their music to European presenters. They played to packed houses and received a standing ovation.
Chennai Trip 2008
As part of her 2008-09 Australia Council Project Fellowship, Lisa travelled to Chennai, India in September-October 2008, to undertake further vocal percussion study with her teacher Karaikudi Mani. It was an inspiring visit to Mani's new residence in Panayur just South of Chennai.
Ben Robertson, who plays double bass with the Lisa Young Quartet also undertook a study program in Chennai with South Indian violinist V.S. Narasimhan. He also had a very inspiring trip and is collaborating with Lisa on the arrangements of 'The Eternal Pulse'.

Events, Workships and Performances
The Australian Voices Choir
The Choir have just returned from a wonderful tour of Taipei where they performed Lisa's piece 'Other Plans' - a new vocal work which she was commissioned to write in 2008. The piece features many intense layers of vocal percussion for vocal ensemble.
Bendigo Youth Choir
During April /May Lisa has been taking a series of vocal workshops with the Bendigo Youth Choir. They presented a concert of the music they explored including premieres of 2 new works, 'Tha Thin Tha' and 'The Gift' on Sunday 17th May 2.30 , St. Andrews Church Bendigo. The gift was included in their program when they won first prize in their section at South Street.
The Australian Voices Festival, Brisbane
Saturday 9th May 2009 -
Lisa conducted workshops as part of the Australian Voices Festival in Kennillworth on the Sunshine Coast, this visit also presented the opportunity to workshop 'Other Plans' the commissioned piece she wrote for The Australian Voices in late 2008.
